FALSE POSITIVES

In mathematics the errors grow exponentially when we increase the number of dimensions.

Standard mean error

In statistics, as we focus samples to an increasing precision, the probability of errors recurring still affects a full sample. A full integer. A subject.

“Urbanism — city planning — is capitalism’s method for taking over the natural and human environment. Following its logical development toward total domination, capitalism now can and must refashion the totality of space into its own particular decor.” (Guy Debord)

Most development of public infrastructures nowadays is commissioned to private ventures and designed to serve an ideal representation of society that treats participation as a commodity and, in doing so, regards as negative any criticism to its particular decor.

Modern perspectives of social spaces are artificially constructed, sanitised and pure, while the nature of grass-root agency is often regarded as criminal, those who live the spaces and intervene on them are regarded as vandals by top-down planning hierarchies.

Modernist city planning, urged by a streamlined imaginary of fear, has designed places for the monitoring and imprisonment of citizens, while those who have problems relating with this world are regarded as failing humans, as subjects to be corrected, assimilated, de-subjectivated, imprisoned, eliminated.

Cities planned for central domination, as stages of total control, ultimately have to deal with their excess of efficiency in framing all the unpredictable instances generated by human life.

All uses of public infrastructures, from transport to assembly spaces, are regarded as potential sources of danger, while the use of open spaces is restricted by complex codes and constantly monitored.

When the city has become the stage of total control, what is performed on it?

Jean Charles de Menezes

The brazilian citizen Jean Charles de Menezes was shot in London at Stockwell tube station on July 22nd 2005 by unknown Specialist Firearms Officers. The previous day some stations of the Tube were stroke by failed bombing attacks. Police was chasing four suspects. Some hours after the murder, De Menezes was discovered to be innocent and not involved in the terrorist act.

Looking at the facts from CCTV camera footage in a worldwide broadcasted process of de-subjectivation, the last living moments of Jean Charles seem to be reconstructed in detail, but yet in a phantom form and, so to speak, spectral.

Demenezes big

Advertising and pornography, which escort the commodity to the grave like hired mourners, are the unknowing midwives of this new body of humanity.

Swapped for someone else, shoot dead with 7 bullets in his head by unknown policemen, worldwide screened in his facial details when compared to a phantomatic identikit of a terrorist.
A tragic mistake that noone could avoid in a society of total control?

Alex Grigoropoulos

On Saturday December 6th 2008, 15 year old Αλέξανδρος Γρηγορόπουλος was shot dead in cold-blood by police in the Exarhia district of Athens following an altercation between police and local youths. He was taken to Evaggelismos hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Among many white-washed police murder cases and neo-liberal reactionary state policies, the murder of Alex moved multitudes of youth across Europe to reclaim their future.

Government apparata are busy procrastinating their failure: refusing to legitimate criticism, they increase repressive control and liquidate all citizens as potential criminals.

Grigoropoulos

Alexander's death, that of a kid, has been an historical catalyst unleashing widespread anger against cultural repression, police mistreatment of protesters, unwelcome education reforms, economic stagnation and government corruption.

All of us.
Just like kids.

Ian Tomlinson

Ian Tomlinson (1961/62 – 1 April 2009) was a British newspaper vendor who died in the City of London, in the middle of the financial district, during the 2009 G-20 London summit protests, while on his way home from work.

The footage showed no provocation on Tomlinson's part, who at the time was walking with his hands in his pockets.

Federico Aldrovandi

Federico Aldrovandi was coming back home on the 25th of September, 2005. He could never reach his family: he was killed by four policemen in the city of Ferrara. Policemen beat him to death: on the face and on the chest, smashed his scrotum and broke two sticks on his body. Policemen left him dying on the floor: didn’t call the family, didn’t call an ambulance in time.

Rolf Machnow

Rolf Machnow was 35 years old when he was murdered, picked up by police as a "subject to re-educate" from a cold public square of Sweden. During his life he had problems with drug addiction, as many people like him during the '80s in Europe, still struggling to get free from them.

Him and his brother were hanging around Sergel square, doing no harm. Three undercover policemen decided to ask him his ID card, even if he was known to them. When Rolf protested, they decided to search him and brought him to the Police headquarters to "give him a lesson".

Rolf was beaten up to death in a small waiting room. Once the cops were done, they called the ambulance, but he didn't even made it to the hospital alive. His body reported several broken ribs, a cranial trauma, an exploded spleen and bruises all over.

Rolf machnow Rolf was the son of Samuel Machnow, a 70 years old writer who survived Auschwitz concentration camp during the WWII; when his sister cried for justice, she was fined for protesting. Swedish writer Peter Birro dedicated to Rolf "Den ömhet jag är värd" - a romance and theatre piece titled "The tenderness that I deserve".

Stefano cucchi His mother, father and sister saw him again dead on 22 October at the morgue. At the moment that they saw him again, he had his face completely swollen and full of marks.
Desaparecido from his home to the morgue.

Gypsies try their best to survive winters.
Stay cold, no home, no alcohol, no move.
"Thus they use death to cover the secret that they must resign themselves to acknowledging: that even life in its nakedness is, in truth, improper and purely exterior to them, that for them there is no shelter on earth." (Giorgio Agamben)
